Opening day! It was fun!
Well, it's May19th the 3rd Sat. in May which means it was open season on all species of fish in my area. I hooked and lost a large Pike today. I saw it before I lost it and he was a good solid 8-12lbs. At first I though it was a snag, then it started to jiggle a little. Just before I landed it, it took one violent head shake and snapped my 10lb test Stren Fluorocarbon line. I like this stuff well enough. It's very tough, pliable and considering it's a fluorocarbon it has fairly low memory. I did end up with a couple of wind knots, and line twists, but considering it's fluorocarbon which can be quite stiff, it was quite manageable. I would buy it again even though I lost a fish on it! Considering that Pike hit it and it kept him on, means he didn't see the line at all (the advantage of fluorocarbon) and didn't even know he was hooked until I started pull. He felt like a snag.Typical Pike with the "I'm gonna act like a log" just dead weight act. I got him about 15 feet in and then he really decided to start pulling. Ah well, who cares? It was just a Pike. It's the Walleye I'm after! I saw a guy get one today, but it was within the slot measurement, so he had to let it go. Shitty. I would have kept him and had him for supper! He was a good looking 5lb or so Walleye. Next issue of the blog. I show you the pattern of spoon I caught him on, and many others. It's my favorite spoon.

Woohoo! Season opener in 1 day!
It's that time of year again! Yay! Fishing season opens to all species in my area Sat. the 19th! I have a new portable fish finder I am dying to try out! It's from Ebay and it's wireless. You can pick one up there for $50 instead of the Hawkeye portable wireless fish finder for $100 retail. Just do a search on Ebay for "Portable Fish Finder" and you'll find lots of them!

It's spring, and I'm back!
It's been a long time since I posted anything, but it has been a very busy year! I don't ice fish a lot, so I put the blog on hold for the winter. Now that spring is just around the corner though, I am feeling the urge to get back to my favorite pass time. With a new year, comes new tips I learned over the winter and here's one for you! Have you ever, wanted your favorite lipped crank baits to swim deeper than they can? Well here's a cool tip to make that happen. What you do is drill a hole in the bottom of a hollow crank bait, fill it with water, and cut a small piece of wooden dowl, or make a rubber plug the same size as the drilled hole, and plug it after filling it with the water. This trick will add weight to the bait, but will not affect the way it swims or the balance, and yet, it leaves you with the option of going back to the original weight, if you choose, by emptying the water out and putting the plug back in! Dual purpose crank baits! Awesome!

Wow, it's been a while! New tip for you though.
Holy! It's been a while since I posted anything. Personal issues, I've been busy. Anyway, since I haven't posted in quite a while, and I've learned a few new tips, I'll get right down to it. I like to fish cheap, as cheap as possible. Here's a bait tip for all of you who do not like paying the price they want for worms these days. This one I learned from an old copy of Field and Stream I found at the library and thought it was just too cool! Do you hate hunting around for free worms at night with a flashlight? All that repeated bending can do a number on your back, especially if you have back problems like me. Now there is a much quicker way with almost no repeated bending involved. Electricity! Here's how it works, although I have yet to try it. Get two metal poles (article did not specify hollow or solid, but you can figure that one out on your own) Push them into the ground about 8-10 inches down and space them about 2-3 feet apart. Get a set of booster/jumper cables for a car. Put one cable on each pole (positive and negative) and hook them up to a 12 volt car battery appropriately. Within 5 min. or so, you should all the worms you need and then some! Pretty awesome huh? Bait salesmen are probably going to hate me for this one, but oh well, too bad.

Got some YUM today. Can't wait to try it out!
So here I am with my first bottle of YUM attractant. Crawfish scent is the one I picked and it smells downright horrible. It's not so much the smell that is the secret of YUM anyway. The real secret is the LPT or Live Prey Technology. This formula imitates an enzyme released by injured or stressed bait fish. This triggers a frenzy and according to every fisherman I have talked to, it's gold in a bottle. I tried the packaged "infused" worms once and was not impressed, so I thought I would give the liquid a try. All my soft plastics are in a Ziploc bag soaking in a generous coating of it. By the time I cast them out the first time they should get hits right away. This stuff smells so fishy that I had to take the bag outside to spray my rubber baits with because it will stink up any room in mere seconds and linger for an hour. Watch out fishies, your ass is mine.

Another great Wal-Mart sale on Berkley Polarized sunglasses.
So Wal-Mart is having a sale on Berkley Polarized Sunglasses, $11.96 a pair. This is pretty good, seeing as these sunglasses are regularly $16.98 per pair and to find a pair of Polarized sunglasses for close to $10.00 is a pretty good deal, seeing as they typically go for at least $20 elsewhere. As for how well they perform? Wow, what a difference! The glare is cut in half and I'm not squinting behind the glasses, except when looking directly at the sun which I can't even do with normal sunglasses. As long as the sun is off to one side, my eyes are wide open behind these glasses.

I haven't had much to post lately. So, here's a joke.
Why don't the Japanese go to the beach?
Because the beach comes to them.
Because the beach comes to them.
