I haven't had much to post lately. So, here's a joke.

Why don't the Japanese go to the beach?
Because the beach comes to them.

So here is a good deal.

As I was browsing through Wal-Mart the other day, I just had to go and check out what fishing deals they had. Well, I found one little gem for only $1! They are jig heads made by Blaze and they light up and flash an LED light when they hit the water. 2 jigs for a buck? Heck, I pay $1 for 3 normal jigs anywhere else, so why not? I can't wait till the ice melts and I can try these out!

Ice fishing season is over.

Ice fishing season is officially over, here in Canada. I did not do much of it this year, but I plan to make up for it once the ice melts! Woohoo! I want to catch something big this spring!

Ever heard of a Shakey Blade?

I was in Wal-Mart the other day and noticed something new in the fishing section. It's called a "Shakey Blade" and is made by Lindy. It's a very cool idea. It works by having an elongated hexagonal blade mounted in front of your live bait. As your bait is dragged behind the rig the blade creates a pulsing effect in the water, causing the bait to wiggle back and forth as if it were swimming. This is great for dead live bait as we know that live bait doesn't stay alive long, once it's on the hook. What's even better, is they also make a Bottom Bouncer rig with the blade already on it. I can't wait till Spring to try out this new rig and I bet pairing it with a Slow Death hook, might yield even better results.

What is a bottom bouncer? It's pretty cool actually.

A Bottom Bouncer is a different sort of rig and they sometimes sit on store shelves forever, because people are perhaps intimidated by them? I found that to be true for myself, as it is a big, kinda funky looking setup, but it's really easy and effective. A Bottom Bouncer is a rig that has a long metal rod down the middle and a sinker in the middle of the rod. At the top, the rod is usually bent horizontally with a loop and spinner/clasp at the end. It sort of looks like a larger version of a bladed bass spinner and skirt rig. However, the real secret to this rig is it's ability to generate sound. As the bottom of the rigs rod travels along the bottom it makes ting and thud sounds (depending on the size of the rig and what it's hitting) which can get the attention of nearby fish. The only problem with this rig is it is not ideally suited to shore fishing as the rig is large and hard to cast. This rig is meant to be trolled from a boat. Couple this rig with a Mustad Slow Death hook and worm and it should bring in loads of fish! The "drag the bait behind the rig" setup of this rig makes it an ideal rig for using Slow Death hooks as this is what is pictured on the back of Mustad's Slow Death packages is a Bottom Bouncer. They are also a cheap rig at only about $4.00 and comes in many weights. The other advantage with this rig is because of the thin rod and smooth egg shaped sinker attached to it, it's virtually snag free, so go ahead and drag it through whatever you want! Don't be afraid of this rig because of it's looks, it's the most foolproof and easy rig you can use.
